High touch outsourcing relationships

Why would you want to have a high touch relationship with an outsourcer?
![]()
Some benefits could be:
- Loyalty
- Improved response to your requests
- May add more value to your business, coming up with ideas for you to implement
- May be prepared to be more flexible with you.
- Generate ideas that can improve efficiency
Downsides:
- Invest time in getting to know someone and they end up leaving
- Can spend a lot of time getting to know someone, that takes time and there is an opportunity cost associated with that.
Do you really need more friends?
It might be better to distinguish between High Touch and Low Touch Tasks rather than the relationships themselves?

Not sure if this is exactly what you’re referring to, but I think that establishing a strong individual relationship for remote work is critical to success.
For any buyers of remote work / outsourcing, if you are going to be working with a firm, I highly suggest getting to know the individuals that will be working on your project, rather than just talking to the customer sales rep at that firm. So much can be lost in communication, that you want to make sure you are in direct contact with individuals actually *doing* the work.
You can check out oDesk.com to see how we allow for these relationships.
